Putting “Fun” In Dysfunctional

fun in dysfunctional-put

We hear so much about “dysfunctional”…dysfunctional families mostly. It bothers me when I hear people say, “That is one dysfunctional family,” or, “that child comes from a very dysfunctional family.”

What is dysfunction?

According to Webster’s Dictionary: n. abnormal, impaired, or incomplete functioning, as of a body organ or part. Dysfunctional adj.

Who is dysfunctional?

I would say that puts EVERYONE who is living and breathing, in or from a dysfunctional family. The honest to God truth is…we are ALL abnormal and impaired because of sin. For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

I will honestly say that our family is dysfunctional in one way or another…We have had great times, bad times and dysfunctional (abnormal) times together.

How does one deal with “dysfunction?”

Our family puts the “FUN” in dysfunctional. We love and believe in Jesus and each other. We cherish our yesterday’s, dream our tomorrow’s, and live our today’s.

God is with us wherever we go, He sees all. He is acquainted with all our ways…We are fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are His works…(Psalm 139).

God goes before us and makes the crooked paths straight, giving us beauty for ashes in our dysfunctional times.

I was helping my sister pack and have her moving sale…you talk about dysfunction, emotions were high, stress was high, some things went as planned, others did not, but did we ever make it a fun dysfunctional time together. I came away feeling a buzz of happiness. Happy that these people are in my life. Happy that I am related to them.  Happy that I have them as an example in my life! We learn by example.

If God be for us, who can be against us. No weapon formed against us shall prosper…not even dysfunction. Greater is He who is in us, then he who is in the world.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. We will say of the Lord, He is our refuge and our fortress; Our God, in Him will we trust.

Surely He shall deliver us from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover us with His feathers, and under His wings we shall take refuge. His truth shall be our shield and buckler.

We shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walk in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

A thousand may fall at our side, and ten thousand at our right hand, but it shall not come near us. Only with our eyes shall we look, and see the reward of the wicked. Because we have made the Lord, who is our refuge, even the Most High, our dwelling, for He shall give His angels charge over us, to keep us in all our ways.

In their hands they shall bear us up, lest we dash our foot against a stone. We shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent we shall trample underfoot.

Because we have set our love upon Him, therefore He will deliver us. He will set us on high, because we have known His name.

We shall call upon Him, and He will answer us. He will be with us in trouble, He will deliver us and honor us. With long life He will satisfy us, and show us His salvation. (Psalm 91)

We believe that…Life is a gift ~ Live It…Life is a promise ~ Fulfill It…Life is a song ~ Sing It…and Life is a challenge ~ Meet It!

With men this is impossible, but with God ALL THINGS are possible. (Matthew 19:26)
